A Telegram or Discord bot is a small program that has to stay online: when your laptop sleeps, the bot stops answering. A VPS keeps it running day and night for the price of a coffee. When to choose more: a bot that only answers commands runs on the smallest plan for years. Raise the memory filter to 2 GB if the bot keeps a database such as Postgres on the same server, serves thousands of users, plays music in Discord voice channels or calls a headless browser. Several bots fit on one server; run each in its own Docker container or systemd service so a crash in one does not stop the others.
Polling or webhooks: with long polling, the bot asks Telegram or Discord for new messages and needs no public address at all, so an IPv6-only plan, often the cheapest, works fine. Telegram webhooks need a public HTTPS address; keep the IPv4 address on if you use them. Turn off Public IPv4 in the settings above to see the IPv6-only bills.
What the price tag hides: the smallest plans are where an IPv4 fee or a renewal price weighs most, sometimes doubling the bill after the first term. This list compares the average monthly bill over the period you choose, so a cheap first month does not win on its own.
